Does Tesla have Apple CarPlay? (October 2026)
No. As of October 2026, no Tesla comes with Apple CarPlay, and Tesla hasn't announced when, or whether, it will. Here's what's been reported, and what you can use today.
What's been reported
- Late 2025: Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reported that Tesla was working on CarPlay support. It didn't arrive in the 2025 holiday update.
- February 2026: Gurman reported the work was still going but held back, in part by changes needed in iOS 26's Maps app. Coverage at the time said Tesla was testing standard wireless CarPlay, shown in a window alongside Tesla's own interface, rather than the full-dashboard CarPlay Ultra.
- Spring 2026: Tesla's spring software update shipped without CarPlay.
- October 2026: independent developers showed CarPlay and AirPlay running inside a Tesla, but on modified hardware, not as a software update anyone can install.
None of this comes from Tesla itself. Until it appears in Tesla's release notes, treat dates as guesses.
Which cars might get it
Nothing is confirmed. Some coverage speculates that CarPlay could be limited to cars with the newer AMD-based infotainment computer (recent Model 3, Model Y, Model S, Model X and Cybertruck), leaving older Intel-based cars out. We'll update this page when Tesla says something concrete.
What you can use instead
Tesla covers some of what CarPlay does on its own: built-in navigation, Bluetooth for calls and audio, phone-as-key, and music apps including Apple Music. For the rest, there are two routes.
A CarPlay adapter
A small box plugs into the car's USB port, pairs with your iPhone and shows a CarPlay-style interface in the car's web browser. Prices run about $75 to $140. You get the CarPlay layout for maps, music and messages, at the cost of extra hardware.
A browser mirroring app
Apps like ScreenRide show your whole iPhone screen in the car's browser over your iPhone's hotspot, with nothing to plug in. You can use any app, not just CarPlay ones, and ScreenRide can also put your Mac on the car screen as a second display. Like everything in Tesla's browser, video plays only in Park. Our guide to mirroring an iPhone to a Tesla compares the options in detail.
ScreenRide isn't CarPlay and isn't affiliated with Apple or Tesla. If Tesla ships CarPlay, it will likely be the better choice for driving, since it's designed to be used on the move. Mirroring remains useful for things CarPlay doesn't do: your full iPhone screen, your own videos, and your Mac.
Questions
Is Tesla adding Apple CarPlay?
Bloomberg has reported since late 2025 that Tesla is working on it, but Tesla hasn't announced it or given a date, and it wasn't in the 2026 spring update.
Will older Teslas get CarPlay?
Unknown. Some coverage speculates that support could be limited to cars with the newer AMD-based computer. Nothing official has been said.
What's the closest thing to CarPlay in a Tesla today?
A CarPlay adapter shows a CarPlay-style interface in the car's browser. If you want your whole iPhone screen instead, a browser mirroring app does that without extra hardware.
